Make sure you don't miss this

Saturday marks the final band practice with Leonard Tan, and we're good to go for the concert.

We'll be starting off with Wedding Dance, from "Hasseneh" (the Wedding). This is one of the first encore pieces we did in the Musical Delights series, and it feels great to be playing this song again. Don't get me wrong, this song is not easy to play, especially for the woodwinds. But I really love the festive feel of this piece and the last bar of the piece where it ends with a unison "HOI" from the band. Just ups the impressive meter lah.

After the fast and furious piece, we'll settle down to play our second song, Imagine. I think the alumni has played this piece for don't know how many thousand times in various bands / concerts, but this piece is also one of the first solo pieces we used in the Musical Delights Series. The solo for this piece was played by Calvin Ang (if I remember correctly) in the previous Musical Delight, this time the solo will be played by the man who organised this alumni, Yong Siang. It is no coincidence that he plays the saxophone and this piece is chosen by him and he's playing the solo. Hmm.

And even before we get to enjoy the moments on stage, we're already into our final piece, Japanese Graffiti XII. The Jap Graf series is also a regular in our Musical Delights repertoire. So this piece is also very representative of the SP Concert Band.

So there you go, a slight peek into what will be presented during the concert. This concert will also be his final concert in Singapore (if you exclude the Band Festival) before he jets off for his studies. This farewell concert promises to be a blast so make sure you buy a ticket and join us in the celebration of his time at SP!
