I read this report "Buffon seeks £250,000-a-week for Man City move" on Soccernet and was wondering how much truth is in this.
IF this demand from The Daily Mail is true, Buffon has everything to gain from it. From just earning £90,000-a-week at Juve (just is used subjectively in this context because of the amount Buffon might get at Man City), he will almost triple his pay by moving to Man City. On top of that obscene pay-rise, Man City will still need to fork out £20 million for the transfer to happen.
What a scam right?!
Some might argue that Buffon won the World Cup with Italy and has various other accolades to justify that price tag. But no matter how you see it, City will still be at the losing end of the deal. At his age (30 yrs old) and level of fitness (missed 1month of Serie A), it's too big a risk although £20 million might seem small change to the cash-rich owners of Man City.
If this deal was to go through with all the terms stated, future players will similarly demand equal or even more obscene amount of wages if a GOALKEEPER is earning a quarter million a week. Before you know it, you're paying several million a day just to have these players in your squad. I've not even mentioned the current crop of players at Man City. How will they react if the owners agreed to the demands?
A sensible deal for Man City is to negotiate for the transfer fees to be waived. They could probably do an exchange of players, maybe.... the want-aways would fancy a switch to Juve.
No matter what happens, I just pray the cost is not passed onto people like us who are paying to watch football, ON TV.
