The first and last time I blogged about Michael Jackson was when he passed away. And I got to admit really, how ignorant I was then. Good thing he was in the music business, because music is timeless. It is never too late to like someone's music, because his or her track will be lying somewhere in the Internet, or some online music store.
With the slightest idea of MJ's life and music history, I made one of the best decisions (of the month) when I booked two tickets to watch "This is it" at Lido, 2 weeks before it opened in cinemas.
Attendance for the movie on a saturday night wasn't quite as satisfactory as I had predicted. Also, the people who were in the cinema didn't seem too enthusiastic, especially the people around me cos' they sat like a block of wood listening to song after song. Occasionally, chuckles filled the cinema when MJ did his erratic moves while rehearsing a song. Like air grabbing notes, lying on the ground kicking furiously in the air... MJ definitely's not your normal guy.
For myself, I had great fun playing air drums on the fast tracks. I must have irritated the hell out of the person next to me. Haha.
The great music aside, I also enjoyed the Behind the scenes rehearsal footages before MJ hit the stage. From the drummer, percussionist, guitarists to the dancers and stage crew, all of them looked like they were enjoying every minute of rehearsal, as much as it's a constant learning experience when MJ was with them.
After the movie, I have a new found admiration for Michael Jackson's dedication to his profession. Dismissing reports of his "out of ordinary" behaviour, the movie/documentary really changed my perception of him, for the better. What a performer we have lost. I finally realised why so many people were grieving when he passed on. There was Michael Jackson, and there's everyone else.
He was in a league of his own.
And I'm so going to catch the show again this week.
p.s. Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday and today. (:
