Movie Reviews

Valkyrie
Tom Cruise stars as a patriotic soldier who defied orders laid down by Adolf Hitler. He believed Hitler's doings are inhumane and the country is edging towards waging war against Europe.

Single-handedly, Cruise came out of nowhere and took control of the group of people who were on the same page as him. Mind you, the army is so huge I don't know how he managed to be relocated with a bunch of rebels.

This group had previous failed attempts of the assasination, until Cruise came along to coordinate a new wave of assasination. If you know your history well, you would already know the outcome of this assasination attempt.

Other than that, what really puzzled me was how Cruise survived a barrage of air attacks and got promoted from an Officer to Colonel upon his return. Weird hor?
Conclusion: I don't think I like hero films... haha.

Slumdog Millionaire
This movie has received several accolades from Golden Globe and BAFTA, and has three nominations in this year's Oscars. Not too bad for a movie resembling Bollywood scenes right. When the first scene showed a flashback of the male lead (Jamal) being interrogated by this fat man, I thought to myself - this 2hrs would be well spent.

There are lots of messages brought across this film. E.g. Contentment, Karma, Greed, Love (brotherly/friendship/lovers)

Slumdog featured the less-portrayed side of India, specifically the slums. Daily lives of people living in the slums were featured on screen. I don't know how accurate it is portrayed, but it is definitely refreshing to see such content featuring on the big screens amidst the glitz and glamour.

But what I like about Slumdog was the portrayal of how the lesser in society triumphs despite the odds stacking against them.

20 million rupees!! That's a lot of money!

p.s. If you liked this movie, you might want to check out 'City of God'.
