On paper, the trio of Anelka/Drogba/Torres looks like a no-brainer. But in reality, tell me how could Drogba and Torres be part of a 4-3-3 set-up when both are playing similar positions?
Liverpool got their strategy spot on for the game. Playing 4-5-1 to stifle the midfield and deny spaces between Lampard and the strikers.
But in Chelsea's case, they sacrificed width for whatever reason Torres and Drogba started together. Which brings me to another concern. It will always be a problem for the manager when you can't start Drogba on the bench, even if you have a 50m pound signing.
Ancelotti seemed helpless when the problem is staring at him for the past 65mins, until he replaced Torres with Kalou. It was a positive move for Chelsea, and it was unfortunate that Liverpool's goal came shortly after. The goal was down to bad defending.
Chelsea could have taken the game to Liverpool and created a lot more problems had they started the game with more width. But kudos to Liverpool who worked hard to deny Chelsea the goal.
I sense trouble brewing if Chelsea were to stick to 4-3-3 for future games, because it would never work if Torres and Drogba starts together. It took Chelsea a few seasons to get Anelka and Drogba playing together, and now another one? C'mon.
