Arts is such an expensive hobby

The most expensive ticket purchased to date - $354 to watch Sir Simon Rattle conduct the Berlin Philharmonic, at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

I had a long struggle with the price tag before deciding to buy on concert day, but weighing my options, I believe I did the right thing. To watch one of my favourite symphonies - Mahler Symphony No.1, played by one of the World's best orchestras, or at least that's how i convinced myself. Other than Mahler, they also played Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances.

The fluidity of the orchestra really amazes me... in terms of dynamics and their response to the conductor's baton. Deliberately dragging on what is already a legato, crisp articulation, moving together with the music, the notes tonight came to life.

"You forget that there are individuals. It's like watching incredible shoals of fish in the Maldives just move together. There's a feeling of when it is organic, which isn't like something else, and it's like a type of breathing."
