The issue of sex education has been the topic for the past few weeks buoyed by the AWARE saga. And while I was reading this morning's edition of mypaper(Page A4), the reporter quoted the Education Minister Ng Eng Hen saying this,
"Sexuality education needs to be taught in a context of values which our mainstream society believes in. This means encouraging heterosexual married couples to have healthy relationships and to build stable nuclear and extended family units."
When asked how teachers would be instructed to handle students who thought they had homosexual tendencies, this was the minister's reply,
"What we want to do within the framework for our teachers...is to provide avenues for them to say, 'This is beyond you, and you have to judge how you want to do it.' And they have to talk to these students and say, 'Well, you know, you have a problem, but it's more sensible to bring your parents in."
Definitely not mincing his words and clearly took his side with the pro heterosexuals. I'm expecting our education minister to get lots of flak from the pro homosexual / neutral community in Singapore in the coming weeks.
