The 7 things I did in 7 days

Lets see what I have accomplished this week!

1) Watched Body of Lies, Cape No. 7 and City of Ember

2) Attended the final band practice conducted by Wei peng

3) Went to Sitex 08 and bought a 40" LCD TV!

4) Had Popeye's Chicken for dinner!

5) Got my $16 student price haircut + wash!

6) Walked along Orchard Rd's candy xmas decoration

7) Caught a cold and possibly a fever (Haa-choo)

This week was particularly hectic because we had to finalise the details of our proposal for the project. A good thing it's already printed out and Tuesday will be the presentation.

It's also quite crazy to watch 3 movies in a week but all three movies are of different genre. Body of Lies is the action film, Cape No. 7 is kinda documentary / comedy film, and City of Ember is a sci-fi adventure film.

There was so much hype about Cape No. 7 in the local and taiwan media even before the movie was screening in Singapore, so I was really looking forward to it. But you know la, when your expectations are too high, the movie becomes not nice. Individual scenes were great, but when you join them together the film becomes overly draggy and disjointed. The theme of the movie - which is to deliver this old package to this old lady - was also masked by the disjointed scenes, which were quite funny on their own. It kinda felt like the story planner only had a clear idea what he wanted in the beginning and ending of the film.

City of Ember is suitable to watch on a weekend evening when you just had dinner. It's the kind of no brainer adventure film, like erm... Indiana Jones. I liked the part where the two kids explore the town and miraculously find their way into restricted areas and running away from giant worm-like creature that resides in the pipeworks.

After movies at cine, we usually walk back to the bus stop @ Lido. The x'mas deco along this stretch of Orchard Rd is probably the most interesting. Apart from the candy theme this year, what really stood out was this!

And yes! The TV in the living room has given up on us since a month ago, and finally we got a new TV! I went to the Sitex fair with my mum today presuming there will be lots of offer going on since it's the final day. There were plenty of sales people standing on platforms trying to capture the attention of those who were there. They were amplifying their Happy Hour promotions using loud-halers / microphones, and including lots of freebies when you puchase the promotional item for that hour.

The promotions were playing with our heads to the extent we weren't really bothered how the TV will look like when they play local channels. The priority for considerations became..

1) Price

2) What are the free gifts

3) Specs of the TV

Like the 40" Samsung LCD TV we bought, it came with a 5.1 Home theatre system, $300 Robinsons voucher, Shinco portable DVD player and an additional dvd player, all for $1399! It seems like a good deal, but we'll have to see when the TV arrives 3 weeks later!

And lastly, I feel like shit now because I keep sneezing. I don't want to work on Mondays....
