My first clarinet

The thought of owning an instrument never crossed my mind, even after 10 years of clarinet playing. The biggest and only obstacle was of course, the price.

But since I'm guest playing for two bands during this period, I was thinking to myself if I should at least get a personal mouthpiece? Because when i play at the different places, they tend to have different mouthpieces and it's unhygenic plus you got to get used to the mouthpiece. (excuses.. i know)

And so i started browsing over the Internet for the prices of mouthpieces... and then came Edmund.

He showed me the Accent website, and told me to get a clarinet instead. His take was since I'll be spending $200 odd on the mouthpiece and ligature, might as well spend a bit more to buy a clarinet, which comes with a mouthpiece and ligature!

It's a logical reasoning... but I had to pay $600 for the second hand clarinet!Things that came into consideration were the price, the brand and the condition of the clarinet.

Well, the picture over the Internet looked quite decent, so we made our way down to Accent to try out the instrument. (like immediately after our chat on msn. Very spontaneous)

The clarinet came with a Morgan mouthpiece, and the whole set up looked and sounded pretty decent. Obviously, my mind was set on getting it but where to find the cash right!?

Then Edmund played Devil's advocate, and told me to call my mom! And so I did.

First thing she asked was.. - Is it worth it?

Then I was trying to give all sort of reasons - e.g. It's in good condition, it's about time I get a clarinet after playing it for so long, It's a good buy, I can practice on it when I'm free...

Second question - Won't it be very noisy?

I got to admit I'm not the best clarinet player around la... haha. -.-||| So i sort of diverted her question with the reasons mentioned above. So technically speaking, I didn't concede the fact that it will be noisy.

And after 10mins of persuasion, I got my loan!

YCL 450, that comes with a Morgan RM-06 mp! (:

p.s. I'm missing out on a few details here and there, but because it's lunch time now, so this post has to end so abruptly!
